About the Cosplay de Umigomi ZERO Award

The problem of marine litter continues to increase all over the world. It is said that by 2050 the amount of marine debris, including plastic, will be larger than the amount of fish, and urgent measures are needed.
Therefore, we are recruiting cosplayers from all over the world to take action to reduce marine litter and to make environment-friendly costumes, and we are holding the "Cosplay de Umigomi ZERO Award" with a Grand Prix prize consisting of an activity incentive of one million yen!!
Please share your strength with us, to contribute to the protection of the precious sea together with cosplayers from around the world, so we can continue to take amazing pictures in beautiful and clean locations!

Application categories

Action category

Looking forward to 2020, we are looking for cosplayers from around the world to conduct activities and initiatives aimed at fighting marine litter, including examples of activities that lead to marine litter reduction and efforts to raise awareness of marine litter.

Costume category

We are looking for the costume making recipes of cosplayers who are conscious about making costumes that reduce the amount of marine litter or costumes made from reused materials and following the 3Rs Rule (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) for their costume-making process.

Submission period

From 1 October 2019 to 31 March 2020

About judging

The award winners will be selected according to the following examination criteria, by a jury composed of the Secretariat committee, marine litter experts and leading figures of the manga, anime and video game industry.

* Results will be notified only to selected applicants from April 2020 to May 2020

Are the ideas presented unique to cosplayers?

Effectiveness

Are the measures effective to counter the problem of marine litter?

Cosplayer and president of 12 Company Inc.

 

A representative cosplayer of Japan who is not only active domestically but has also participated in many overseas conventions through the years.

She has been invited to events in more than 50 countries in Asia, Europe and the Americas, where she has been a judge in international cosplay competitions.

She is also active as a lecturer in cosplay workshops in which she teaches about make-up and the creation of wigs and costumes.

Her range of activities is even wider in Japan, where she makes costumes for companies and produces events, besides performing as an MC.

After occupying positions such as assistant in the Zero Emissions Research Initiative project of the United Nations University, or part-time researcher at the Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (production policies field), he has been working at IGES since September 2005.

Currently, he is the research theme leader of theme 3 of the Strategic Research and Development Area of the Environmental Research and Technology Development Fund S-16 "Policy Design and Evaluation to Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns in Asian Region".
